THE RLC MUSEUM APPOINTS A NEW CURATOR-MANAGER

The Trustees of The RLC Museum have appointed a new Manager-Curator.  Andy Robertshaw took up the post in April 2007 in succession to Sue Lines on her retirement.
 
Having completed his post graduate studies at the College of Ripon and York St John, Andy taught in Buckinghamshire for seven years before joining the staff of the National Army Museum in 1984. He became Head of the Museum's Education Department in 1989 becoming responsible for the Museum's learning services, access and extensive public programme in addition to international projects.

An Honorary lecturer at University College he lectures on battle conditions, specifically medical 
treatment and wounds in twentieth century warfare. He is a consultant to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Belgian Association for World War Archaeology.  For the past twelve years Andy has been coordinating a European group called No Man's Land which conducts archaeological projects on the Western Front. Andy has written three books about military history for young people including the award winning 'Soldiers Lives'. His book on the Somme, 'Tragedy and Triumph' was published last year and current works include a study of filming of the Somme and 'Digging the trenches' concerning Great War Archaeology.

Andrew is an experienced battlefield tour guide and has taken numerous parties of soldiers and civilians to the 
D-Day beaches, the Western Front and British sites.  He has regularly appeared in battlefield archaeology series such as 'Two Men in a Trench', the BBC series ‘Ancestors' , The Real Dads Army, a history of the Home Guard and he was a consultant for Time Team during the excavation of a Napoleonic Redoubt in Kent. His most recent project for television is a documentary series The Trench Detectives which has just been broadcast. The next documentary to be shown will be 'Blood and Bullets' a study of British military medical services since Agincourt. He lives in East Surrey with a wife, daughter three spaniels and numerous other pets.
 
We are delighted to welcome Andy to The RLC Museum Team, and look forward to working with him in his new role.  The Friends made Sue an Honorary Member of the Friends in recognition of her support for the Museum and the Friends.  We wish and her family a long and enjoyable retirement.
